Weekend round-up: VLN, Pirelli World Challenge, GT Open, ADAC GT

Four GT champions took to the track last weekend. In Germany, the second round of the VLN took place at the Nürburgring, while the ADAC GT Masters kicked off their season at Oschersleben. It didn’t take long for the new Audi R8 LMS GT3 to establish itself as a winner: just seven weeks after its presentation in Geneva, WRT brought the German manufacturer their very first win with the R8 Mk. Long Beach was the stage of not just the IMSA United Sports Car Championship, but Pirelli World Challenge as well. The two big rival series both served as the undercard to the IndyCar Grand Prix of Long Beach. The young guns

WRT takes a chance with a couple of young guys this season. The Audi team has added an R8 LMS ultra for 17-year-old Max Koebolt, 23-year-old Pieter Schothorst and 26-year-old Porsche Carrera Cup France graduate Sacha Bottemanne. The trio had their Blancpain GT baptism of fire in the season opening race at Monza last weekend.
