As we countdown to the start of the Nürburgring 24 hours at 16:00, it is BMW who placed themselves on pole position. Two blistering laps under 8 minutes 18 seconds by Augusto Farfus brought BMW team Marc VDS Racing the first place in the Top 40 Shoot-out.
It was a strong day for BMW anyway. Team Schubert placed their Z4 GT3’s on third and fourth position, but with Black Falcon ruining a full BMW top 3. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 squad squeezed onto the front row with a lap only nine tenths shy of the fastest lap.
While Black Falcon had their SLS in top condition, Haribo Racing didn’t had such luck. Their AMG prepared car is suffering serious problems all week long, leading to some annoyed team members.
If one of the BMW teams crosses the finish first on Sunday 16:00, it will be the brand’s first ‘N24’ win since 2010 and the first Nürburgring 24 hours win for the soon-to-be-replaced Z4 GT3. The last car from Bayern to have won the legendary endurance race was the M3 GT2.
