While history was being written at Le Mans, over in Germany history was being relived. An armada of classic sports cars, touring cars and open-wheel racers cars took to the Nürburgring for the Historic Trophy Nürburgring, including its most-prized race, the ADAC Eifelrennen.

For the fans, historic racing is never as much about the racing itself as it about these monsters of yesterday go by at high speed, being used for what they were built for. Some of these throw-back machines on display were the Kremer-built Porsche 935 K1 and the two-time Nürburgring 24 Hours and triple Spa 24 Hours winning BMW 635 CSI.

For two days in June it was like the days of old again.
