Rites of spring, Pt.II

Laurens Vanthoor couldn’t hang on to the lead in the VLN season opener when with ten minutes to go Patrick Pilet in the Manthey Porsche got a little too close for comfort. The Belgium forced himself into an overtake that proved too risky. Laurens Vanthoor: “It was my fault, I was behind the wheel”

For Laurens Vanthoor the premiere race of the 2017 VLN season could not have ended any worse. With the finish in sight, the race leader made a fatal mistake in his attempt to pass a slower vehicle while fending off the approaching Patrick Pilet. Rites of spring

Full grandstands, fans lined up along the Nordschleife and a field of nearly 200 cars. The first flowers are blooming in the bright spring sun whilst birds whistle away in the valleys and forests that have formed the track, undisturbed by the echoing of roaring engines.
