Incredibly thick fog has seen officials suspend the 2018 edition of the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The red flag came out with 3 hours and 30 minutes remaining as increasing fog throughout Sunday morning and into Sunday afternoon, coupled with continuous rain, made driving conditions next to impossible.
At the time of the red flag, the number 4 Black Falcon Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Maro Engel was leading ahead of the Frederic Makowiecki-driven number 912 Manthey Racing Porsche, while Hubert Haupt was lying third in the number 6 Black Falcon Mercedes.
With conditions improving slightly, the green light was shown at the end of pit lane at 13:15 CET and the cars began to re-grid for the restart which is expected at 14:10 CET following the formation lap which will get underway at 13:50 CET. The race will finish at strictly 15:30 CET, regardless.
UPDATE: The race has since restarted under safety car, with Adam Christodoulou leading the field back to green in the number 4 Black Falcon AMG.

This image shows the problem. The front end of the start/finish straight is relatively clear, but the back is completely enveloped in fog. This is not including the constant rainfall. #N24h #24hNBR pic.twitter.com/GsbqsclwWK
