Swiss driver Alex Fontana will race with AKKA ASP in the GT World Challenge Europe starting this weekend in Imola for the Endurance Cup. He joins Benjamin Hites and Lucas Légeret in the #89 AKKA ASP Team Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the Silver Cup class.

Fontana replaces Arno Santamato who was set to start the season back in April. The 27-year-old is no stranger to the French squad as he competed a four-race campaign with AKKA ASP back in 2017 in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup before joining Emil Frey Racing with whom he won the Silver Cup in the Endurance championship in 2018.

AKKA ASP has stated its goal of claiming the team’s fourth consecutive Silver Cup title in the combined Sprint and Endurance championship.

After months of delays, cancellations and rescheduling, the 2020 GT World Challenge Europe season finally kicks off this weekend at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola with a three-hour race for the Endurance Cup.
