Jonny Adam praised team-mate Andrew Howard as the Beechdeam AMR pairing got their first Intelligent Money British GT Championship pole position together for more than six years at Brands Hatch.

The duo, reuniting their title-winning partnership after a number of years apart, wound back the clock as the pair combined perfectly to storm to pole position for the opening round of 2021.

The Aston Martin factory driver highlighted Howard’s work over the off-season as one of the key factors in claiming the first spot on the grid.

“Andrew’s lap was good. We did a little bit of pre-season testing, and feel the car has come on a little bit from last year and Andrew is driving really well in testing so it’s nice to see it all come together when the pressure was on,” Adam explained.

“What better place to start than pole position? I think the last time we raced together, which was 2015, was our last pole position together – I think it was this round to be fair in ’15. Nice place to start, we’ll see what the weather does this afternoon – we’ve got two or three different forecasts.”

The front-row also gives them a perfect opportunity to get their championship challenge off to the best possible start, with Howard starting the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 on the front – alongside WPI Motorsport’s Michael Igoe. For Adam, scoring solid points would be a successful start to the season.

He said: “The car’s going well, and at the first round we just want to get some points on the board. So, realistically, if we can get a top three that would be great.”

The first round of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship gets underway at 13.20 UK time (14.20 CET), and you can watch it live here on GT REPORT.
