SRO, the organiser of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship, has confirmed the series’ 2022 calendar with a highlight being an extended three-hour race at Donington Park.

After two years of COVID-affected calendars, the 2022 schedule goes back to a more ‘traditional’ format as seen prior to the pandemic.

The main change being, that Oulton Park moves back to its traditional slot as the season-opening round in April on the Easter Bank Holiday weekend on April 16&18.

Most excitingly, there’ll be a pair of three-hour races in May with the blue-riband Silverstone 500 starting the month and the first of two trips to Donington Park at the end of May also an 180-minute spectacular.

After that British GT marathon in May, the calendar settles down to become somewhat familiar once again, with the June trip to Snetterton featuring two one-hour events and the ever-popular trip to Spa in July kicking off SRO’s Speedweek ahead of the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa.

Brands Hatch moves slightly later into the season to become a September event, but there’ll still be a #DoningtonDecider with the final round of the season heading back to the East Midlands in mid-October.

Having been introduced this year, Friday’s test sessions will continue at the vast majority of rounds – the exact rounds will be confirmed in the new year.

Outside of the main British GT paddock, the supports for the championship will be increasing as MSV – which runs GB3, formerly known as British F3 – will be launching a GB4 championship. The series will also add some single-seater racing to weekends, with teams utilising Gen1-spec Tatuus F4 chassis as raced in Germany and Italy – amongst other places – which are being replaced internationally with a new generation of car from next year.
