Nick Tandy and Matthieu Jaminet in the #6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 will start the Sahlen´s Six Hours of The Glen from pole position after qualifying session was cut short due to heavy rain.
With water puddles forming at several places on track, IMSA officials announced that qualifying will be abandoned as the GTP teams were preparing for the final 20 minute session.
The GTP teams championship standings will determine the starting grid for the third Michelin Endurance Cup race of the 2023 IMSA season.
This means the #31 Action Express Cadillac V-Series.R of Alexander Sims, Jack Aitken and Pipo Derain will line up alongside the #6 GTP machine, with the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-06 starting in third position.
Chaos in LMP2/LMP3 qualifying
The joint LMP2 and LMP3 qualifying session was also cancelled after accidents caused by the sudden heavy rain brought out a red flag.
Going into turn 7, Ari Balogh lost control of his #30 Ligier LMP3 car and crashed into the barriers. Just Seconds later Ben Keating spun his #5 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsport Oreca 07 in similar fashion and crashed into Balogh´s stranded Nissan powered car. Anthony Mantella in the #17 AWA Duquesne D08 Nissan aquaplaned off track in the same place. The three car pileup brought out the rad flag immediately and the session would not be resumed.
In LMP2 the pole went the #11 TDS Racing Oreca, while the #74 Riley Motorsport Ligier will start the race from pole position in the LMP3 class.
New Lap Record in GTD
The GTD qualifying was the first and only session to take place on Saturday afternoon. Italian driver Loris Spinelli took pole position in GTD with a new lap record for GTD cars. He recorded a lap time of 1:44:430 in his #78 Forte Racing by US RaceTronics Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2.
Daniel Serra in the Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 went second fastest overall, securing pole position in the GTD Pro class, with Jack Hawksworth in the #14 Lexus RC F lining up second in the all Pro category.
The Sahlens´s Six Hours of The Glen will Get underway at 10:40 a.m. EDT/ 16:40 CEST.
