In a bid to defend his British GT4 Championship title, Erik Evans is set to headline Academy Motorsport’s latest endeavor, piloting one of their two new Ford Mustangs for the upcoming season.
Teaming up with Multimatic Motorsports driver Marco Signoretti, Evans aims to continue his winning streak, forging an all-North-American crew for the challenge. Meanwhile, the seasoned duo of Will Moore and Matt Nicoll-Jones will spearhead the effort on the other flank of Academy’s garage.
Evans, a 20-year-old prodigy, made history last season by clinching the British GT4 crown alongside Matt Cowley at Donington, becoming the first American to achieve such a feat. Now, with the unveiling of the new Multimatic-built Mustang GT4, Evans seeks to etch his name in the annals of motorsport history once more.
The fresh iteration of the Mustang follows the footsteps of its predecessor, boasting a track record of nine victories, with Evans and Cowley contributing significantly to its success last season. Their triumphant comeback from a daunting 63-point deficit underscores the team’s resilience and determination.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Evans stated, “Last year, seeing the passion and excitement the British racing fans had for the car and our team was remarkable and inspiring.” He looks forward to unleashing the capabilities of the new Mustang alongside Signoretti and the Academy Motorsport crew.
Signoretti, a seasoned campaigner in his own right, brings his expertise to the team after a successful stint in the Canadian sportscar scene. His return to British GT promises an exhilarating showdown on iconic tracks, including the legendary Spa-Francorchamps.
Meanwhile, Nicoll-Jones, the team owner and former British GT4 champion, exudes confidence in his partnership with Moore, setting their sights on another stellar season with the newly minted Mustang GT4.
With anticipation building ahead of the British GT media day on March 12 and the subsequent season opener at Oulton Park over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, the stage is set for Academy Motorsport to showcase the prowess of their new Mustang GT4 lineup.
