Barwell Motorsport has announced its return to the British GT Championship with twin Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 entries, as the team looks to defend its 2024 Teams’ Championship title and push for further success in the Drivers’ standings.
The reigning champions will once again field two competitive lineups, featuring standout amateur racers Alex Martin and Rob Collard, both of whom are determined to build on their successes from last season.
After finishing as championship runners-up in 2024, Alex Martin and Sandy Mitchell will once again pilot the #78 Lamborghini, supported by Dextra Commercial Lighting, RHM Forestry Ltd, and Dama Fortuna Tequila. Martin, who impressed in his debut GT3 season last year, is aiming to go one step further and claim the overall championship.
Mitchell, a British GT3 champion in 2020, will compete alongside Martin in four rounds. However, due to scheduling conflicts, Finnish racer Patrick Kujala will step in for the Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, and Brands Hatch rounds. Kujala, a GT World Challenge Europe veteran, last raced in British GT in 2020, finishing as championship runner-up.
Martin remains confident in his bid for the title, saying: “Having come so close last year, I believe we have all the right ingredients to get the job done this time around. With an extra year of experience, I feel much better prepared.”
In the defending #1 Lamborghini, Rob Collard is chasing history as he aims to become the first amateur driver to claim three British GT3 titles. The two-time champion will be joined by 2023 GT Cup champion and rising talent Hugo Cook, who makes the switch from Audi to Lamborghini machinery for 2025.
Collard, who clinched the 2024 title alongside his son Ricky, is eager for the challenge ahead. “This year will be special as it’s my first chance to defend a British GT title. Hugo is an exciting young talent, and I’m looking forward to working together to challenge for the championship.”
Cook, meanwhile, is determined to make an impact in his sophomore British GT season: “This is a massive opportunity for me—driving for the best team on the grid and alongside a champion. There’s pressure, but that’s how you prove yourself.”
Barwell Motorsport team principal Mark Lemmer is confident the team can replicate last season’s success. “The 2024 season was incredible for us, but we know how tough British GT is. Nothing can be taken for granted, but I believe we have the right team and drivers to challenge again.”
The team’s dominance last year saw them rewrite the British GT history books, securing a record-high Teams’ Championship score and the first-ever one-two Drivers’ Championship finish in the GT3 era. With such a strong lineup once again, Barwell is fully focused on defending its crown.
The 2025 British GT season kicks off with the Media Day at Silverstone on March 21, ahead of the opening round at Donington Park on April 5-6.
