The 2025 Italian GT Sprint Championship’s opening weekend concluded in thrilling fashion at Vallelunga with Sunday’s Race 2 delivering fresh winners in both GT3 and GT Cup. Under blazing sun and high track temperatures, the #51 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 of Lorenzo Ferrari and Mahaveer Raghunathan led the charge in the top category, while Ferdinando D’Auria bounced back from misfortune on Saturday to dominate the standalone GT Cup race.

Ferrari and Raghunathan claim Race 2 GT3 win for AF Corse

After Saturday’s BMW triumph, Race 2 of the GT3 class saw a shift in fortunes as Lorenzo Ferrari and Mahaveer Raghunathan converted their front-row start into a commanding victory for AF Corse. Despite being overtaken early on by Edoardo Liberati in the #63 VSR Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo 2, Ferrari kept close before handing the car over to Raghunathan. The Indonesian driver rejoined in the lead and kept clear of the battling pack behind to secure the win and top Pro-Am honours.

Behind them, Andrea Frassineti and Liberati took second after serving a success handicap from Saturday during their pitstop. Philippe Denes and Alexander Bowen originally finished second on the road but were penalised for a driver change infraction, dropping the #85 Imperiale Racing Lamborghini to third. Felice Jelmini and Daniele Di Amato brought the #55 Nova Race Honda NSX GT3 home in fourth, ahead of Ignazio Zanon and Mattia Michelotto, who overcame a back-row start and five-second penalty to finish second in Pro-Am. Rocco Mazzola and Fabio Rauer followed in sixth for Tresor Attempto Racing’s #99 Audi R8 LMS GT3, with Saturday winners Jesse Krohn and Jens Klingmann seventh after serving a 15-second success penalty.

D’Auria bounces back to win solo in GT Cup

Ferdinando D’Auria made amends for Saturday’s heartbreak when he lost a likely podium due to a puncture, by controlling Sunday’s GT Cup race from the second stint onwards. Starting from pole in his #166 HC Racing Lamborghini Huracán ST Evo2, the 18-year-old Neapolitan was overtaken early by Stefano Gai in the #169 AF Corse Ferrari 296 Challenge but regained the lead after the pit window. Despite a five-second single-driver handicap, D’Auria pulled clear to take his first win of the season.

Cousins Giacomo and Matteo Pollini climbed from sixth on the grid to take second for Giacomo Race, while Lorenzo Pegoraro and Filippo Croccolino secured a strong third for Best Lap after retiring in Race 1. Andrea Fontana and Alessandro Mainetti took fourth for Target Racing, just ahead of DL Racing’s Riccardo Ianniello and Vittorio Viglietti.
