It’s officially June, and all focus now shifts to arguably one of the biggest sports car races in the world: the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This year, IMSA will have a presence through one of its series, the Mustang Challenge, which will host a non-points-paying race at the historic circuit.
As with many invitational-style events, unique entries are expected to show up—and the inaugural edition of this event appears to be no exception.
Cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy, Top Gear host Chris Harris, and Formula Drift champion Tanner Foust have all been announced as part of the exciting entry list set to compete at Le Mans in two weeks, as we await the full roster.
Hoy is an 11-time world champion cyclist and six-time Olympic gold medalist, having last competed in the 2012 Games. While he built his reputation on two wheels, Hoy also brings a wealth of experience on four, including a 2015 ELMS season championship in the LMP3 class with Team LNT. He also competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016, finishing 12th in the LMP2 class with Algarve Pro Racing.
Harris, one of the three presenters on Top Gear, has long held a strong reputation in both the automotive industry and motorsports. He has hosted Top Gear since 2017 and boasts racing experience of his own, including a class win at the 2007 Britcar 24 with Paragon Motorsport.
Foust arrives at Le Mans known for his drifting and off-road background, highlighted by back-to-back Formula Drift titles in 2007 and 2008. Beyond Formula Drift, he has also won multiple events in the X Games and the FIA World Rallycross Championship.
While the full entry list for the Mustang Invitational has yet to be revealed, Ford CEO Jim Farley could potentially join the star-studded lineup, as the Blue Oval executive continues to be actively involved with the series on track.
