History was made at the 93rd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Robert Kubica became the first Polish driver to claim outright victory, joined by Yifei Ye, the first Chinese driver to win. Starting from a lowly 13th place on the grid, Phil Hanson completed the opening stints for the #83 AF Corse Ferrari team, becoming the first privateer team to win overall since 1996 and marked Ferrari’s third consecutive victory at Le Mans.
The #6 Porsche Penske Motorsport trio of Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor, and Matt Campbell fought back from the rear of the Hypercar field—after a disqualification from hyperpole for an underweight car—to take second place. Third place went to the #51 Ferrari AF, driven by Antonio Giovinazzi, Alessandro Pier Guidi, and James Calado, whose car developed an issue in the closing minutes of the race forcing them to nurse their car to the end.
Kubica delivered a stunning performance, completing a grueling three-and-a-half-hour, five-stint run over 59 laps to bring the #83 Ferrari home. The #6 Porsche capitalized on a late error by Antonio Fuoco in the #50 Ferrari, who lost time at the Porsche Curves in the final 30 minutes, dropping from second to fourth and allowing the #51 Ferrari to claim the final podium spot.
LMP2
Polish success continued in the LMP2 class as the #43 Inter Europol team of Nick Yellowly, Kuba Smiechowski, and Tom Dillmann clinched their second consecutive Le Mans victory. They overcame a late penalty to reclaim the lead from the #48 VDS Panis Racing Oreca 07, driven by Oliver Gray, Esteban Masson, and Franck Perera, who suffered a technical issue in the closing laps. The #199 AO by TF car, driven by PJ Hyett, Dane Cameron, and Louis Deletraz, rounded out the podium in third.
LMGT3
The #92 Manthey 1st PHORM Porsche was also able to claim a double Le Mans win, as drivers Ryan Hardwick, Riccardo Pera, and Richard Lietz, took the win for Manthey to add to the team’s victory last year. They were followed by the #21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari of François Heriau, Simon Mann, and Alessio Rovera in second, with the #81 TF Sport Corvette of Charlie Eastwood, Tom van Rompuy, and Rui Andrade securing third.9
