The #1 Scherer Sport PHX Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II set the pace in Thursday’s second qualifying session for the 2025 ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring. Christopher Haase clocked an 8m10.580s early in the session, taking advantage of clear conditions before traffic and Code 60 zones limited improvements across the field.
Joining the Scherer Audi in Friday’s shootout are both Abt Sportsline Lamborghinis. Marco Mapelli guided the #28 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 into the top group, while Jordan Pepper did the same in the sister #27 car. The #34 Walkenhorst Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 also made the cut with Mattia Drudi at the wheel, and Laurens Vanthoor clawed the #16 Scherer PHX Porsche 911 GT3 R to third with a late effort after earlier technical problems.
The session wasn’t without incident. The #44 Falken Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R slowed with a puncture for Dennis Marschall, and the #48 Black Falcon Team EAE Porsche 911 GT3 R of Mustafa Mehmet Kaya hit the tyre barriers at Metzgesfeld. Kaya was uninjured. Several cars, including the #59 Dörr Motorsport McLaren Artura Trophy Evo, were hit with speeding penalties in the pit lane, while the #347 Max Kruse Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup MR suffered a fire at the exit of the Steilstrecke.
Further back, the #11 SR Motorsport SchnitzelAlm Mercedes-AMG GT3 will start from the back of its group after violating a Code 60 zone, and the #98 ROWE Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO is struggling to get into the mix after a late decision to enter the race with a single car due to BMW’s Le Mans and Spa commitments. Team principal Hans-Peter Naundorf admitted they’re still playing catch-up.
Elsewhere, Max Kruse fulfilled a personal dream by turning his first laps in the #10 Max Kruse Racing VW Golf GTI TCR. Meanwhile, #830 Hyundai Motorsport Elantra N TCR driver Marc Basseng noted the heat and high track temperatures, warning that tyre wear could become a critical factor on race day.
Top Qualifying shootout takes place Friday afternoon at 13:20 CEST, where the battle for pole position will be decided. The final qualifying session is set for 16:15 CEST.
