The motorsport world was buzzing this past weekend, July 11-13, 2025, with high-octane action across three major events: the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and the British GT Championship’s sprint races at Snetterton. From historic firsts to nail-biting finishes, here’s your recap of the weekend’s biggest moments.
FIA WEC Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo: Cadillac’s Historic Breakthrough
The Autódromo José Carlos Pace, better known as Interlagos, welcomed the FIA WEC back to Brazil for the first time in over a decade. The Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo delivered a landmark moment for Cadillac, as the Anglo-American Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA secured a stunning 1-2 finish in the Hypercar class, marking the manufacturer’s maiden WEC victory.
The #12 Cadillac V-Series.R, driven by Alex Lynn, Norman Nato, and Will Stevens, dominated proceedings, with Nato bringing the car to the chequered flag after a flawless performance. The sister #2 car, piloted by Earl Bamber, Sébastien Bourdais, and Jenson Button, completed the podium’s top two, showcasing Cadillac’s pace and strategy in a race where season-long frontrunner Ferrari struggled to keep up. The team’s synergy with JOTA and Michelin’s medium-compound Pilot Sports tyres proved unbeatable, navigating the challenging Interlagos circuit with precision.
In the LMGT3 category, Akkodis ASP Team’s Lexus celebrated its first WEC win of the season. José María López, Clemens Schmid, and Petru Umbrărescu delivered a commanding performance, converting their season-long promise into a well-deserved victory. López took the car across the line, fending off fierce competition in a race that highlighted the depth of talent in the LMGT3 field.
IMSA Chevrolet Grand Prix: LMP2 Takes Centre Stage but weather stops play
Across the Atlantic, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship roared into Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) for the Chevrolet Grand Prix, the only Canadian stop on the 2025 calendar. With the GTP class absent due to a scheduling clash with the WEC’s São Paulo event, LMP2 stepped up as the headline category, joined by GTD Pro and GTD classes, delivering a packed weekend of racing from July 11-13.
The LMP2 field saw significant lineup changes, with United Autosports’ #22 Oreca welcoming Tom Blomqvist alongside Dan Goldburg, replacing Peugeot factory driver Paul di Resta. Tower Motorsports’ #8 saw Renger van der Zande step in for Sébastien Bourdais, while Era Motorsport’s Ryan Dalziel paired with series debutant Travis Hill. Despite the reshuffled lineups, the racing was as fierce as ever on CTMP’s high-speed 2.459-mile Grand Prix circuit.
In GTD Pro, DragonSpeed’s Giacomo Altoe returned to the #10 car, replacing Davide Rigon, who was committed to WEC duties. The 10-team field remained highly competitive, with brands like Corvette, BMW, and Lamborghini battling for supremacy. The GTD class, though reduced to 13 entries from 20 at Watkins Glen, saw intense action, with no major lineup changes reported.
Support series, including the Michelin Pilot Challenge, VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, and Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup, added to the spectacle. Notable performances included Jared Thomas surviving a weather-shortened MX-5 Cup race to take victory, while Paul Hyett claimed another LMP2 pole for the WeatherTech Championship.
Hyett went on to win the race in the #99 AO Racing Oreca with teammate Dane Cameron finishing jsut 1 second ahead of Tom Blomqvist in the #22 United Autosports USA car he shares with Daniel Goldberg.

Race 1
Race 1 on Saturday saw a dominant 1–2 finish for BMW Italia Ceccato Racing, as Jens Klingmann and Jesse Krohn led home teammates William Alatalo and Leonardo Caglioni in the M4 GT3. Francesco Colavita and Ibrahim Badawi completed the podium in the AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3, ahead of the VSR Lamborghinis of Alessio Deledda and Yuki Nemoto, and the duo of Andrea Frassineti and Edoardo Liberati.

Lorenzo Ferrari led early in the AF Corse Ferrari, but Edoardo Liberati capitalised on a safety car restart to pass Mahaveer Raghunathan and take control. Felice Jelmini and Daniele Di Amato secured second in the Nova Race Honda NSX GT3, with Klingmann and Krohn charging back to third despite a success penalty.
Ignazio Zanon and Mattia Michelotto (VSR Lamborghini) took top honours in Pro-Am, while Huilin Han (Target Racing Ferrari) claimed victory in the AM class.
