Jack Aitken grabbed pole position in DTM Qualifying 2 at the Sachsenring with a benchmark time of 1:17.125. This marks Aitken’s third pole position this season with his #14 Emil Frey Racing Ferrari 296 GT3, earning him additional championship points once again.
Thomas Preining (#91 Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R) pushed hard to challenge Aitken but had to settle for second place, finishing 0.333s behind. Preining already impressed in Race 1 by climbing from P9 to challenging for the lead until a clash with Jordan Pepper left him finishing fourth. In third place, Ayhancan Güven looks determined to fight for another victory in Race 2 following his win in Race 1.

Meanwhile, Aitken’s main championship rival, Jordan Pepper in the #7 TGI Team Lamborghini by GRT Huracán GT3, qualified fourth and will need to defend his position to avoid losing ground to Lucas Auer. The Austrian, in the #22 Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf Mercedes-AMG GT3, could only manage P15 in Q2 and was handed a monetary penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
Morris Schuring secured an impressive fifth in the #92 Manthey Junior Team Porsche 911 GT3 R, but he, along with Maro Engel (#24 Mercedes-AMG Team Winward Racing, P8) and Luca Engstler (#19 TGI Team Lamborghini by GRT, P16), will drop positions due to penalties for collecting their third driving standards warning this season.

The championship battle continues to intensify, with standings shifting every qualifying and every race in recent weekends. Jack Aitken now leads the championship, followed by Pepper in second and Auer in third. Will Pepper retake the lead in Race 2, or can Auer bring himself back into contention from his lowly fifteenth place on the grid? And most importantly, can Aitken hold onto the top spot? All eyes are on Race 2 at 13:30 CEST.
