The opening day at the Red Bull Ring delivered a mix of weather and toppages as the 2025 DTM title fight moved into its penultimate round.

A wet track greeted the field in the morning, with Morris Schuring (#92 Manthey Junior Team Porsche) setting the benchmark at 1m37.887sec. Jules Gounon (#48 Mercedes-AMG Team MANN-FILTER) and Luca Engstler (#19 GRT Lamborghini) followed closely, while points contenders Jack Aitken, Thomas Preining, and championship leader Lucas Auer all placed inside the top 15.

The afternoon saw the track dry and lap times tumble. The session was briefly halted when Timo Glock’s McLaren stopped in smoke, and later a full course yellow followed Lucas Auer’s stoppage on the main straight. The interruption forced an extension of five minutes, cutting into the following Track Safari.
When the action resumed, René Rast took control, clocking 1m28.674sec to lead a Schubert Motorsport 1–2 with Marco Wittmann. Gilles Magnus impressed with third in the Comtoyou Aston Martin, while Jordan Pepper and Arjun Maini rounded out the top five.

Saturday brings the first major test of the weekend with Qualifying 1 at 9:10 CEST and Race 1 at 13:30 CEST, where the fiercely close title fight continues between Lucas Auer, Jack Aitken, Ayhancan Güven, and the chasing pack. With just 28 points covering the top nine, the Styrian hills are set to witness another dramatic DTM showdown.
