The European Le Mans Series (ELMS) returned to Silverstone after six years away from the iconic British track, and its return did not disappoint. Over the four-hour period, we saw incidents, red flags and rain.
Emerging victorious at the end of all this action was IDEC Sport, piloted by Jamie Chadwick, Mathys Jaubert and Daniel Juncadella. Furthermore, CLX Motorsport won the LMP3 class and was crowned 2025 class champions, with Paul Lanchere, Adrien Closmenil, and Theodor Jensen at the wheel.
Despite their pole yesterday, VDS Panis Racing mainly lost their ground in the pit-stop phase of the race, with Oliver Gray receiving a penalty for leaving the pits under a red light.
The Race
Within the first few minutes of the race, the #31 Racing Spirit of LeMan found the gravel early on, bringing out the VSC. The #8 Team Virage and an LMGT3 entry were also involved. There were also incidents in the LMP2 Pro/Am category.
Furthermore, Aliaksandr Malykhin for CLX – Pure Racing was wheeled into his garage due to a heavy amount of rear damage. However, when trying to make up lost ground, he collided with the #63 Iron Lynx car, causing a massive crash for the Mercedes LMGT3 and a red flag. Thankfully driver Martin Berry was okay.
After the red flag, the next bit of drama was on the Hanger Straight, when the #83 AF Corse, the #77 Proton Competition and the #15 RLR M Sport collided, with the latter two ending up in the barriers. This resulted in a safety car and later a red flag, with just one hour gone of the four.
The #83 AF Corse was later given a drive-through penalty after being made accountable for the incident. With just over an hour to go, rain began to fall, providing an additional twist to this race, as it cut the race short with just eight minutes to go.
Chequered flag
IDEC Sport took overall and the LMP2 class win, the LMP2 Pro/Am class win being taken by Algarve Pro Racing, and the LMGT3 class was won by Richard Mille AF Corse. Meanwhile in the LMP3 class, it was a doubly victorious day for CLX Motorsport, who won in their class and were crowned LMP3 champions.
ELMS travels to Portugal next for the final round in just over a month’s time at the Portimao circuit. With three championships still to wrap up, it’s a race you won’t want to miss.
