Topcats Racing secured the 2025 GT Cup championship at the final round of the season at Snetterton. Meanwhile, Paddock Motorsport dominated at the Norfolk-based circuit, securing the GT3 title.

Saturday

The opening practice session saw Mark Smith set the trend for the weekend, as he put his #10 Paddock Motorsport McLaren at the top of the time sheet.

He carried this onto qualifying, securing pole position over title-chasing Topcats Racing, with PB Racing rounding out the top three.

In GTH, SVG Motorsport grabbed pole, with Triple M Motorsport qualifying fastest in the GTA class. All teams then looked ahead to the first sprint race of the weekend.

It was a strong start from Smith, as he maintained the lead going into the first corner. Further back, Track Focused’s Darren Kell made his way up past PB Racing’s Peter Erceg for third position.

There was then a spin at the back for Oselli Motorsport, as the Aston Martin dropped places. After losing his third position, Erceg was all over the gearbox of Kell, as he looked to retake third place.

At the halfway point, there was a fierce battle brewing, with the #99 SVG Motorsport Ginetta chasing down the GTH leader, Innovation Racing with Cresta.

Then with just over eight minutes to go, PB Racing retook third place from Track Focused, after the lapped #24 SVG Motorsport BMW presented the Audi with an opportunity to get past the McLaren.

As the chequered flag waved, Paddock Motorsport took their first win of the weekend, with Topcats Racing crossing the line second overall and first in class. Innovation Racing with Cresta held on to take the GTH lead, with Triple M Motorsport finishing as GTA winners.

Next up was the pit-stop race, with Paddock Motorsport again leading the way once the race got underway. PB Racing’s Erceg also made his way past Topcats Racing’s Fraser Fenwick, as they took second place.

Further back, after a close battle in the sprint race earlier in the day, the SVG Motorsport Ginetta collided with Innovation Racing’s Luke Bennett. This resulted in heavy rear bodywork damage for the team, who pitted instantly for repairs.

Meanwhile, with 20 minutes of the race completed, the #63 JMH Automotive Lamborghini spun round at the hands of Frank Morris. Not long after, it was onto the pit stops.

Whilst pit stops were underway, the #75 Team Parker Racing entry spun around, dropping out of the top 10. However, they were able to continue once they got themselves back around.

Marcus Clutton, now at the wheel of PB Racing’s Audi R8 GT3 Evo2, was making moves. With 12 minutes to go in the race, he made his way back up into second place after hunting down Kell.

He now had his sights set on leader Mark Smith, setting fastest lap after fastest lap. Then on the final lap, Clutton attempted an ambitious move on Smith, with the two making contact at the end of the Bentley Straight.

It sent Smith off the track, with Clutton taking the lead. However, PB Racing were hit with a post-race penalty of 30 seconds, dropping them back to second. Topcats Racing finished fourth to take another GTC class win, with Innovation Racing with Cresta and Triple M Motorsport again taking GTH and GTA victories.

Saturday’s result from Topcats Racing meant they were crowned 2025 champions, as they were now untouchable when it came to the overall championship.

Sunday

Paddock Motorsport again qualified on pole, with PB Racing lining up just behind them. Newly crowned champion’s Topcats Racing had a less enjoyable session, qualifying down in fifth, behind Track Focused and JMH Automotive.

Innovation Racing by Cresta again led the way in the GTH class, with Bennett storming to pole. Much like the day before, Triple M Motorsport was top of the group when it came to the GTA class.

First up on Sunday was the pit-stop race. Smith held on to the lead, with Kell narrowly keeping hold of third, with the JMH Automotive Lamborghini proving a threat on the inside.

With 17 minutes gone in the race, Topcats Racing made their way into fourth and into the GTC class lead after overtaking Morris in the #63 Lamborghini.

As the race entered the halfway point, pit stops began to be made. With 20 minutes to go, the #80 Uber GT Performance Porsche found the gravel at turn one.

Then with 14 minutes to go, the safety car was released after the JMH Automotive entry stopped on track, giving PB Racing a chance to challenge Mark Smith’s lead.

There were just two minutes to go when the field was released, and a massive accident involving Uber GT Performance, SVG Motorsport and Innovation Racing occurred. As a result, a red flag was released, with all three cars stopped in the barrier.

Therefore, Mark Smith held on to take the overall win and the GT3 championship. Topcats Racing topped the GTC class, followed by Innovation Racing with Cresta, and Triple M Motorsport again taking the win in the GTH and GTA classes.

Attention then turned to the final race of the season, a 25-minute sprint to round off this year’s GT Cup championship. It was again another flawless performance from Mark Smith to take a clean sweep over the weekend.

The GT Cup championship is provisionally set to return next year on the 11th/12th of April at Donington Park.
