Although the 2025 Mazda MX-5 Cup regular season has officially ended, the race calendar has not, as the series concludes its year at Martinsville this evening.
A unique twist for the series, the Martinsville non-points race enters its second season following last year’s inaugural event, which saw Jared Thomas take home the win in the 105-lap race.
This year, 16 entries will take the green flag — two fewer than in 2024 — highlighted by recently crowned series champion Jeremy Fletcher and Cadillac GTP driver Earl Bamber.
A two-time Le Mans winner, Bamber makes his first start in the Mazda MX-5 series and will attempt to bring home a clock in his debut race on an oval track.
Other notable entries set to hit the track include Sally Mott, Jagger Jones, Westin Workman, and Nathan Nicholson.
$25,000 is on the line for the 16 drivers competing tonight, along with the chance to take home the iconic Martinsville grandfather clock — a historic trophy synonymous with the track.
The format remains mostly unchanged from last season, featuring a 100-lap race divided into two 50-lap segments, with caution laps not counting toward the total. A new feature, according to the official series preview, is the addition of a “stage break inversion,” where a random fan will be chosen to draw a number between 1 and 10. The number drawn will determine the inversion among the top 10 — for example, if a five is drawn, the top five drivers will invert to start the second stage.
All the action kicks off at 6 p.m. ET tonight on IMSA’s official YouTube channel, with two practice sessions and qualifying taking place earlier in the afternoon.
