#117 MM Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán ST drivers Franco Girolami and Leonardo Arduini claimed a dramatic victory in the opening GT Cup race at Monza after Vittorio Viglietti suffered a last-lap mechanical failure while leading comfortably.

Viglietti heartbreak hands MM Motorsport the win

The #172 DL Racing Lamborghini Huracán ST of Vittorio Viglietti and Riccardo Iannello took the lead with 13 minutes remaining, when Viglietti made a decisive move under braking into the Viariante del Rettifilo to pass Leonardo Arduini in the #117 MM Motorsport Lamborghini. From there, Viglietti quickly pulled away and appeared in full control until a mechanical issue on the final lap forced him to slow and eventually retire, allowing Arduini to retake the lead and claim victory alongside Franco Girolami.

Arduini and Mainetti battle to the flag

While running second and third behind Viglietti, Leonardo Arduini in the #117 MM Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán ST and Alessandro Mainetti in the #109 Target Racing Lamborghini Huracán ST—shared with championship leader Andrea Fontana—were locked in an intense fight that lasted until the final lap. Their duel continued after Viglietti’s retirement, effectively turning into the battle for the win. Despite relentless pressure from Mainetti, Arduini held firm to cross the line first by just 0.569 seconds after 27 laps.

Carminati wins in Am, Ferrari takes Division 2 honours

In the Am class, #251 CRM Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán ST drivers Ettore Carminati and Bernardo Pellegrini took victory after a solid performance.

The GT Cup Division 2 victories went to #412 MRNC12 Ferrari 488 Challenge duo Riccardo Paniccià and Montego Maassen in Pro-Am, while #533 SR&R Ferrari 488 Challenge driver Lyle Schofield triumphed in Am.

All titles to be decided in Race 2

The result ensures that all GT Cup titles will be decided in Sunday’s final race, with multiple contenders still in mathematical contention across both divisions of the 2025 Italian GT Sprint Championship. Andrea Fontana holds the cards in the GT Cup Division 1 standings, but with Fernandino D’Auria, who finished third in Race 1, just three points behind.

Race 2 starts Sunday at 10:30 CET.
