Mahiki Racing has confirmed plans to contest the 2026 British GT Championship, stepping onto the GT3 grid with a McLaren 720S GT3 and an experienced driver pairing of Josh Rowledge and Steve Lake.

The move marks a significant milestone for the ambitious team as it expands its presence within British GT’s premier class, combining McLaren machinery with a line-up that blends recent international experience and long-standing team continuity.

Rowledge arrives at Mahiki Racing having steadily climbed the British GT ladder in recent seasons. After contesting the championship in GT4 machinery in 2023, he progressed to GT3 competition in 2024 and further strengthened his credentials through an extensive programme in Asia last year.

The 24-year-old believes that combination has prepared him well for the challenge ahead, explaining that his recent campaigns have helped him establish a strong platform at GT3 level. He highlighted the value of racing in new environments overseas, which he says accelerated his learning both on and off the circuit.

Rowledge also expressed enthusiasm about joining Mahiki Racing, citing the team’s ambition and professional approach as key factors behind the move. He is confident the foundations are already in place to allow the McLaren package to be competitive from the outset, with a clear focus on working closely with engineers and crew to maximise performance throughout the season.

As part of the announcement, Rowledge paid tribute to the ongoing backing of his sponsors GB Technologies, Rescue Rod and We Trade, acknowledging that their continued support has been instrumental in securing the opportunity to compete in British GT’s top class.

Team boss and co-driver Steve Lake welcomed the signing, describing Rowledge’s progression through the British GT ranks and his international experience as standout qualities. Lake noted that Rowledge’s pace, professionalism and overall approach made him a natural fit for Mahiki Racing’s GT3 programme.

The 2026 season will also see a personal story come full circle for Lake, who previously worked with Rowledge during his early karting career. Lake recalled that Rowledge competed for his karting team as a Cadets driver many years ago, making their reunion as British GT teammates a particularly proud moment.

From a team perspective, Lake underlined Mahiki Racing’s intention to keep building momentum both on and off the track. He says the focus remains on delivering strong race performances while continuing to grow the operation professionally as it takes on the demands of GT3 competition.

With McLaren 720S GT3 machinery and a driver pairing already familiar with British GT’s competitive environment, Mahiki Racing’s entry adds further strength to an increasingly stacked 2026 British GT Championship grid.
