Starting from pole for the 2026 Meguiar’s Bathurst 12 Hour, Cameron Waters was encouraged by the pace shown throughout Saturday, as Scott Taylor Motorsport turned strong practice form into outright performance.

The all-Aussie #222 Mercedes-AMG GT3 delivered a 2m01.079sec in the Pirelli Pole Battle — the second-fastest lap ever recorded around Mount Panorama — securing the Allan Simonsen Trophy and leading a top-three lockout for Mercedes-AMG in qualifying. It marked a significant statement from the Queensland-based squad, which steadily built momentum across the day.

For Waters, a frontrunner in the Supercars Championship and no stranger to the Mountain’s high-pressure environment, the pole lap was a reward for the team’s work behind the scenes.

“It’s awesome to get pole. We’ve had some real good car speed. We’ve made the car a lot better, which has been great,” Waters said to GT REPORT.

Still, the Victorian remained realistic about what lies ahead.

“It’s 12 hours around here and anything can happen. So you just have to stay clean and be in it at the end and hopefully that’s enough to get it done.”

With an all-Australian team leading the field at Australia’s most demanding circuit, the tone has been set. But as history repeatedly shows at Bathurst, Saturday success guarantees nothing on Sunday.
