The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg kicks-off today as the NTT IndyCar Series sets its sights for Sunday’s season opening race. 

Joining IndyCar for the weekend include IndyNXT, IndyCar’s feeder series, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Mazda MX-5 Cup & USF 2000, making the streets in St. Pete a true cathedral for motorsports over the weekend.

There are multiple major headlines coming into the race weekend for IndyCar including Will Power shifting over to Andretti, Mick Schumacher joining US open-wheel racing for the first time with RLL and a handful of new rookies joining the fray.

Beyond driver changes, the quest for three in a row for Alex Palou begins as the spainard looks to join an exclusive list of IndyCar greats following a stellar 2026 season.

As for IndyCar’s support series for the weekend, the NASCAR Truck Series headlines a strong Saturday slate of racing with the series’ first-ever street course taking place on the tight confines of the famed circuit.

Multiple “all-star” entries make up the field with Dario Franchitti, James Hinchcliffe and Colin Braun set to join Truck regulars for a historic race.

For the Mazda MX-5 Cup, sportscar stars Sebastien Bourdais & Earl Bamber join the field to complement some of the series’ regulars, Jeremy Fletcher, Nathan Nicholson and Gresham Wagner.

Racing action kickstarts this afternoon with USF 2000’s first race of the weekend, along with practice/qualifying sessions for IndyCar, IndyNXT, Mazda MX-5 Cup & the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
