The highly anticipated debut of the Lamborghini Temerario GT3 is set for this weekend, and Andrea Caldarelli could not be more excited.

The factory driver has now had time to test and shake down Lamborghini’s newest GT3 car and is looking forward to what is to come in its first global race.

“I’m very, very excited,” said Caldarelli. “It has been a long, short journey because we’ve been testing this car for, yes, a long time, but in a very short amount of time. So, to come here and put this beautiful car out there with all the other cars, it’s definitely a privilege. We are really excited to see what it’s going to bring this weekend.”

Testing across Daytona and Sebring shapes early understanding

Leading into this weekend’s 12-hour race, the Temerario has seen on-track time most notably at Daytona and Sebring.

Given the notable differences between the two circuits, Caldarelli and Pfaff were able to experience the changes the car was going through under unique conditions.

“Yeah, I think obviously track-wise, temperature-wise, and condition-wise, it definitely plays a difference out there,” said Caldarelli. “But from the test to when we came here, we did some other tests in between. So, we worked even more on the car with other bits and pieces, and we are not necessarily in the same place we were during the Daytona or Sebring test in November. So, it makes sense that, in general, the car feels a little different. There are a lot of variables, but the fact is that every time we go out on track with this car, it’s obviously a learning process for us. So, we are still in that process.”

Road car DNA plays key role in Temerario philosophy

As Lamborghini and Pfaff embark on this new journey, there is not only excitement, but also strong support behind the fresh effort for the brand, which translates even from its road cars.

“Yeah, I mean, we take a lot from the road cars as well. The Temerario, for us, is also a road car. It’s a huge change from the long-standing Huracán. We do believe that it’s definitely a big step up in terms of product quality, not only for racing but also for road cars. We take a lot of things from the road car to the race car. There is big synergy and collaboration within the company, and we are trying to show the world how good this product is, not only in racing but also in its road cars. We really believe as a company in this new project.”

First finish, then build performance

There is always a mark for where you want to be. For Caldarelli and Pfaff, that starts with simply finishing the race.

“Well, for sure, the first expectation and, let’s say, benchmark target for us is to finish the race — finish the race without any issues or major problems. That is, realistically, the first target. But we are here as a group of guys working on the car with Pfaff Motorsport and Lamborghini as well. Once you start to see that everything is working out there, then you start to want more and more. But we have never raced this car before. We’ve never been in a pack of 40 cars around us. So, it’s going to be a discovery for us to see how the car behaves in battles and in traffic. It’s a learning process that we know we have to go through. But at the same time, we are all racers.”

Huracán legacy sets a high benchmark

As for what Caldarelli will remember most about his Italian Bull predecessor, the Huracán, he stated, “It brought a lot to the table — a lot of wins, a lot of championships, and a lot of races. It had been around for more than 10 years, and through all of the Evo packages we brought, it was obviously a solid car. So, our benchmark is really tough because we already had a very strong car from the past. This raises the level even higher, and we know that matching what we did with the Huracán is going to be really, really hard. But there is a lot of excitement in the factory at the moment. It’s obvious that after working 10 years with the same car, bringing something completely new to the table sparks extra motivation and effort from everyone involved. But yeah, the Huracán definitely sets a very high benchmark for us.”
