The first weekend of SRO America action is off and running out in Sonoma, California. To keep you up to date on the racing action, here is our notebook from the last two days of activity.
Friday
- Pirelli GT4 America kicked off the weekend with a dominant pole-to-win performance from Rafa Racing. The duo of Westin Workman and Tyler Gonzalez only gave up their lead when they came in for their mandatory driver change. After the pit stop window, which saw Workman yield to Gonzalez, #68 was uncontested to the end. Gonzalez beat Francis Selldorff by 2.5 seconds for the victory in both the overall and Silver class. The NOLASPORT Porsche of Matheus Leist and Matt Travis scored the victory in Pro-Am with 3rd overall. Finishing 11th overall and topping the Am class is the #188 Random Vandals BMW of Judson Holt and Denny Stripling.
- TC America also held their opening race of their 2026 campaign Friday afternoon. Canadian Braydon Arthur controlled the 35-minute race, leading all nineteen laps in his JMF Motorsports Toyota Corolla. Andre Castro finished second, 1.6 seconds behind Arthur in his Hyundai Elantra. Justin Gravett completes the podium as Ricca Autosport finished second to fifth behind Arthur’s Toyota.
- In addition to these races was the opening 60-minute practice of GT World Challenge America. The GMG Racing Porsche of Tom Sargeant and Kyle Washington topped the session with a time of 1:34.023. AF Corse’s two Ferraris topped their respective classes. The #12 Ferrari of Frederik Schandorff and Matias Perez Companc topped the Pro class in 3rd overall. Oswaldo Negri and Jay Schreibman, the only Am in the field, ended the session 10th.
Saturday
- Saturday morning began with Race 2 of TC America. Like Friday, it was a pole-to-win performance. Unlike Friday, it was Andre Castro who started on Pole – virtue of his fastest lap from Friday’s Race 1. Castro led every lap in his Ricca Autosport Hyundai and beat Friday winner Braydon Arthur by one second. Dean Lambros in his Skip Barber Racing Acura finished third.
Pause for Practice
- GT World Challenge America had two practice sessions on Saturday. The morning Free Practice 2 saw the JMF Motorsports Mercedes of Michai Stephens and Mikael Grenier fastest with a 1:33.233. The #34 Mercedes was only two thousandths of a second ahead of Friday’s fastest car, the #32 GMG Racing Porsche. The #31 Wright Motorsports Porsche of Dave Musial, Jr and Ryan Yardley rounds out the Top 3.
- Later, in the early afternoon, was the final practice. Free Practice 3 saw its third different team top the session. Colin Braun took the #017 Kellymoss Porsche to the head of the class with a 1:34.514 with Pro-Am populating the Top 5 positions. Mikael Grenier was only 6th as the best in Pro class with his JMF Mercedes.
…More Racing Action…
- In between the two GTWC America practices was Race 2 of Pirelli GT4 America. Because of a new rule that determines the Race 2 grid by the fastest lap of the second driver in Race 1, Kenton Koch of Random Vandals in Pro-Am scored overall pole position. Koch led the first half of the race, but Westin Workman passed Sam Craven for the lead with 15 minutes to go. However, a heavy crash with 11 minutes left caused a safety car that would not be removed. Workman and Tyler Gonzalez sweep the overall and Silver victories. Random Vandals top both Pro-Am and Am. Koch and Craven rebounded from a disappointing Race 1 to win Race 2 in Pro-Am. Holt and Stripling sweep the Am class on the weekend.
- Race 1 of the new season of McLaren Trophy America was defined by heartbreak. James Li and Sam Neser of RWE Motorsport dominated the race until mechanical failure with 6 minutes to go in the 50-minute race. Neser was leading by 13 seconds when he suffered right rear suspension failure at the start of the lap. With the longtime leader gone, the resulting safety car led to a 2-lap shootout. Where one RWE entry fails, the other takes control with the #11 Pro-Am entry of Tommy Pintos taking the lead on the restart. Pinto holds off the Forte Racing Pro entry of Patrick Liddy to score the overall win. Cooper Broll in 4th topped the Am class.
- After kicking off the season at the Arlington GP, the Toyota GR Cup North America kicked off the second round the same way as the first round. Spike Kohlbecker scores his second win of the season leading every lap of the 45-minute race from pole position. Will Robusto and Max Schweid round out the podium. One footnote was problems from Arlington Race 2 winner Jeremy Fletcher in the race that led to his early retirement.
- Rounding out a busy day was the first race of the GT America season. Memo Gidley in the SKI Autosports Audi dominated the 40-minute proceedings. Gidley, a half-hour away from nearby Sausalito, had his family and friends cheering as he beat Marc Muzzo by six seconds. Scott Blind in his Ruckus Porsche rounds out the podium. David Lecko takes top honors in the Cup class while Craig Lumsden earned victory in GT4.
