Monochrome GT4 Australia Series opened its 2026 season at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries’ Liqui Moly GT Festival Phillip Island, sharing the event schedule with GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS. A record grid of more than 30 cars delivered an action-packed weekend across two one-hour races, with changing conditions, penalties and standout drives shaping the opening round.

Qualifying sets the stage

Wet and challenging conditions defined qualifying, with Method Motorsport’s #25 McLaren Artura GT4 duo Tom Hayman and Jett Murray securing pole for Race 1, while GWR Australia’s Daniel Frougas put the #9 Toyota GR Supra GT4 on pole for Race 2.

Race 1: Cameron and Dalton capitalise as drama unfolds

The opening race of the season saw the #27 Multispares Racing Ford Mustang GT4 of Aaron Cameron and Lochie Dalton take Silver Cup victory after a post-race penalty reshuffled the order.

Originally crossing the line behind the #227 Multispares Racing Ford Mustang GT4 of Cam McLeod and Mason Harvey, a 10-second post-race penalty for weight balance handed Cameron and Dalton the win after a strong recovery drive from fourth on the grid. McLeod had made a lightning start to take the early lead and initially pulled clear, but a safety car brought the field back together before he rebuilt his advantage during the second stint.

Cameron and Dalton, however, stayed consistent throughout and capitalised on the penalty to secure victory.

Daniel Frougas delivered an impressive solo drive to secure third place in the #9 GWR Australia Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO 2, continuing his strong form from qualifying, while the #25 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 of Tom Hayman and Jett Murray were left to settle for fourth after starting from pole and slipping back during the race.

In Silver-Am, the #3 Thunder Buddies Racing / Black Diamond BMW M4 GT4 of Ryder Quinn and Daniel Jilesen dominated to claim a commanding victory, finishing well clear of the #32 Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 of Jacob Lawrence and Lachlan Mineeff.

The race featured early drama, with the #28 Norganic Proteins Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS of Caleb Paterson and Kent Quinn retiring on the opening lap, bringing out the safety car. Later, the #1 Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 of Aaron Seton and Jason Gomersall was also forced to retire from the race.

The Am Cup saw the #64 Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS of Chris Lillis and Nathan Callaghan produce a standout drive, charging from seventh in class to take victory. Glenn Walker finished second in the #14 Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4, while Ryan Sorensen completed the podium despite dealing with a mid-race issue.

Race 2: Hayman and Murray strike back in chaotic finale

Sunday’s second race delivered more drama, with penalties once again playing a decisive role.

A large number of post-race penalties stemmed from a Safety Car intervention that disrupted the mandatory pit stop window. Several crews entered pit lane before crossing the control line under green flag conditions after the restart, breaching the regulations and receiving time penalties, which reshuffled the final classification.

At the start, the #27 Multispares Racing Ford Mustang GT4 of Aaron Cameron jumped from the line to take the lead away from pole-sitter Daniel Frougas in the #9 GWR Australia Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO 2.

The race’s key moment came in a fierce battle between Frougas and the #227 Multispares Racing Ford Mustang GT4 of Mason Harvey, with contact between the pair sending Harvey into the tyre wall.

When Tom Hayman took over the #25 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4, the reigning champion produced a decisive stint, charging through the field to take the lead and build a comfortable gap to the rest of the field.

The #35 Miedecke Motorsport with Lubrimaxx Ford Mustang GT4 of Blake Tracey and George Miedecke secured second place following post-race adjustments, while the #46 Aperitif Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS of Jensen Shearer completed the podium after being promoted from ninth following a series of penalties.

The Silver-Am class win went to the #118 Method Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 of Cameron Crick and Dean Campbell, who were promoted to class victory following post-race penalties. CAMM Quarries & Concrete Racing’s Lachlan Evennett and Andrew Torti were classified second in the Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO 2, with Quinn and Jilesen adding another podium in third.

In the Am Cup, Glenn Walker secured victory in the #14 Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 after a post-race penalty for Ryan Sorensen, who had crossed the line first in the #11 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4. Walker’s consistent weekend performance saw him leave Phillip Island at the top of the standings, ahead of Peter Lawrence and the father-son pairing of Bailey and Rob Love.

Looking ahead: The Bend awaits

With a win and a strong points haul across the weekend, the #25 Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 pairing of Tom Hayman and Jett Murray leave Phillip Island as the early championship leaders in the Silver Cup.

The championship now heads into a six-week break before returning for Round 2 at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park, also known as The Bend, on 8–10 May. With momentum building and early contenders emerging across all classes, the next round will offer a clearer picture of the 2026 title battles.
