Lance Stroll is the next active Formula 1 driver to step outside the F1 bubble, following Max Verstappen into GT racing as he prepares to make his GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS debut at Circuit Paul Ricard. His arrival adds yet another layer of intrigue to a season opener already packed with storylines.

Debut with Comtoyou Racing

Stroll will make his GT3 debut in the #18 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 run by Comtoyou Racing, sharing the car with Roberto Merhi and rising Formula 2 talent Mari Boya. The line‑up immediately drew attention when the entry list dropped, not only because of Stroll’s presence but because Comtoyou arrives with a four‑car Aston Martin assault across multiple classes.

Merhi brings an extra layer of experience to the crew: the Spaniard started 14 Formula 1 Grands Prix for Manor Marussia in 2015 and has since built a diverse career across Formula Renault 3.5, Formula 2, Formula E and multiple endurance championships, including podium success in the Asian Le Mans Series. His blend of single‑seater pedigree and sportscar mileage makes him a valuable reference point for Stroll as he adapts to GT3 machinery.

Stroll has already begun that adaptation; on Wednesday, April 1st he was seen pounding laps at the Nürburgring, and he’ll continue that process during the official Prologue at Paul Ricard on 8–9 April. Just days later, he’ll be thrown into the deep end as the lights go out for the opening round.

A new chapter for Stroll begins

Lance Stroll will be trying to carve out his place in a discipline that demands rhythm, patience and adaptability. For a driver accustomed to the precision of Formula 1, GT3 racing offers a different kind of challenge; one defined by traffic management, stint strategy and the relentless ebb and flow of endurance competition. Whether he thrives or struggles, his presence adds an extra spark to a season opener already brimming with intrigue.

Next weekend, all eyes will be on the #18 Aston Martin as Stroll begins his first steps into the world of GT racing — and we’ll see how quickly he can adapt to the challenges that await him.
