Vasser Sullivan Racing confirmed Wednesday they will be doubling their efforts for next weekend’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Jack Hawksworth and Frankie Montecalvo will team up to run the team’s second car with the #89. The #89 is selected as a nod to the creation of the Lexus brand in 1989.
Of course, those familiar with IMSA know that both drivers are well embedded within Vasser Sullivan. Montecalvo is the team’s third driver for the endurance races in GTD outside of his day job of running his family’s recycling business. Hawksworth, meanwhile, is a Toyota factory driver and part of the team’s #14 GTD PRO entry.
The team also ran two cars in last year’s race. Montecalvo teamed up with Aaron Telitz to finish third. This year, Telitz is in the team’s full season #12 GTD entry partnering Benjamin Pederson.
Vasser Sullivan now becomes the third team to convert their GTD PRO entry for the Long Beach round. Pfaff Motorsports brings the new Lamborghini Temerario dawning #46 while AO Racing will run their Roxy-liveried Porsche, wearing the #177.
The Grand Prix of Long Beach, for GTP and GTD only, will be a 100-minute sprint race on Saturday, April 18 with the green flag flying at 1:05pm local time.
