Former GT4 and Ferrari single-make driver Matt Dalton passed away at the age of 62 two weeks ago, with multiple teams Dalton drove for throughout his racing career sharing heartfelt tributes on Tuesday.
Dalton was the 2024 Ferrari Challenge North America champion in the 488 Challenge EVO Coppa Shell class, driving the No. 423 for One11 Competition. That season, the New York native claimed two race wins at Watkins Glen and Sonoma across 10 races, along with six podium finishes and four poles.
In 2025, Dalton split his time across eight races with Turner Motorsports in IMSA’s Michelin Pilot Challenge and VP Racing SportsCar Challenge. In Michelin Pilot Challenge, Dalton competed at Watkins Glen, Road America, Mid-Ohio and the season opener at Daytona, while also contesting four VP Racing SportsCar Challenge events at Daytona and Mid-Ohio. Dalton made prior starts in the series in 2021, driving the No. 23 Notlad Racing by RS1 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 with co-driver Patrick Gallagher at Daytona, while also making select starts in GT & GT4 America in SRO.
Outside of racing, Dalton built his career as a fixed-income investment executive, notably with Belle Haven Investments. Members described him as “a friend, mentor, trusted partner, and visionary.”
“We are saddened to say goodbye to Matt Dalton,” Turner Motorsports posted on social media. “Matt was a supporter of Turner Motorsport and was always happy to be at the track. He loved racing (especially in the rain!) sporting his Hello Kitty themed helmet. Matt drove a Turner BMW M4 GT4 in VP SportsCar Challenge and shared the car with Patrick in Michelin Pilot. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace Big Dog!”
“This past weekend we said goodbye to an amazing human being- Matt Dalton,” One11 Competition, the team Dalton won his championship with in Ferrari Challenge, posted on social media. “Matt had a contagious energy of laughter, fun, wit, sarcasm, generosity & empathy. He was always happy, and so gracious just to be where he was in life. We cannot count the moments of crying laughter he brought to our team. We will always be grateful for his time on our team, and especially winning a Ferrari Challenge championship! Rest easy Matt.”
