The penultimate round of the VLN championship at the Nürburgring has arrived. Today, 155 cars embark on 4 hours of racing around the 24-kilometre long Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Amongst this huge field of cars are 19 GT3s, including two 2019 prototypes from Audi and Aston Martin entered in the SPX class.

On pole for today’s 50. ADAC Barbarossapreis is the BMW Team Schnitzer BMW M6 GT3, courtesy of a quick morning qualification lap of 8:37.841 set by solist Augusto Farfus. Both SPX entries, however, were faster but will have to start from the back of group one as per the rules for non-homologated GT3 cars. Maxime Martin went fastest in the number 65 Aston Martin Racing Vantage GT3 2019 with a 8:31.359, 5.6 seconds faster than the number 52 Car Collection Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 2019. The number 9 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 of Oscar Andres Tunjo and Max Hofer qualified on the front row alongside Farfus, but an accident at Hohe Acht severely damaged the front end of the Audi and put an end to the car’s session and possibly race before it even began.

It might be autumn by now, but the skies are bright and sunny with the temperatures reaching 20 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. Enjoy it while it lasts.

VLN8 starts at 12:00 CET.
