Newly established Madpanda Motorsport continues to prepare for its debut in the GT World Challenge later this month. The team run by race car driver Ezequiel Pérez Companc has been out testing around Europe in recent weeks in search of speed and drivers for its first entry into motorsport.

On Thursday, the Montmeló-based team visited nearby Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya at Montmeló to test with three Spanish drivers who could potentially join the team when racing gets underway later this month.

Amongst them was GT4 driver Jorge Cabezas Catalán. The driver from Andalusia also tested with Madpanda Motorsport at the GT World Challenge pre-season test at Circuit Paul Ricard in March.

So far, only Pérez Companc has been confirmed to drive.

Madpanda Motorsport is scheduled to take part in both the Sprint and Endurance Cup portions of the GT World Challenge Europe entering the #90 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in the Silver Cup.

In early June the team returned to action for the first time since Spain went into lockdown when Madpanda Motorsport took to its local track for two days before making the long haul to the Netherlands for another two-day test session at the redesigned Circuit Zandvoort. Madpanda plans to continue its test schedule in the lead up to its debut race at Imola on 26 July.

“I’ve been really impressed with our progress made in testing recently, especially given the disruption everyone has faced due to the lockdown and restrictions on movement and business activity,” said driver and team principle Ezequiel Pérez Companc. “We’ve maintained a positive attitude and taken the positives to spend the downtime focusing on improving our processes and training, but as soon as it was safe to do so, we made sure to get as much testing completed as possible.

“Everything is falling into place. We just need to complete the last puzzle piece: the drivers. We’ve had a lot of interest in our open seats but it’s key to make sure the fit is right. There is no benefit to rushing into a decision. We’re getting there, though, and I’m confident that we’ll select the best drivers for the job to give us a fighting package for the Silver Cup titles.”
