A second Ginetta GT4 will make an appearance at the final round of the Intelligent Money British GT Championship at Donington Park. Colin White will return to the championship for the first time since 2014 when CWS Racing make a guest appearance in the GT4 class.
The reigning Ginetta GT4 Supercup Pro-Am champion is joined by Ginetta’s long-time factory driver Mike Simpson in what’s considered a fact-finding mission ahead of CWS’s expected full-season entry next year.
65-year-old White, who also leads this year’s GT4 Supercup Pro-Am standings, previously raced Ginetta’s G55 models in British GT3 and GTC. However, this will be his first entry both in the GT4 class.
Simpson, meanwhile, made his last British GT4 appearance with Century in 2017 before heading up Ginetta’s LMP1 programme.
“It’s been a long time since my name was last on a British GT entry list but it’s great to be back and to continue my long association with Ginetta,” said White. “I know the G55 inside out after racing it for so many years in GT4 Supercup but I’ve only heard good things about the new car and can’t wait to get out there.
“We’ve made it clear to SRO that Donington is very much a precursor to CWS re-joining British GT full-time next season. But it’s also an opportunity to see how much the class and series has changed over the last seven years. I’m under no illusions about the level of GT4 or the other Pro-Am crews we’ll be up against, but I’m also hopeful we can hit the ground running with Mike who has more recent experience of the championship.”
CWS’s entry is ineligible to score points at Donington and thus cannot affect this year’s GT4 Pro-Am battle, which still features four potential champions. Matt Topham and Darren Turner lead Nick Halstead and Jamie Stanley by 14.5 points, while Mark Sansom and Charlie Robertson lie a further 18 back. John Ferguson is 34 points behind the leaders with a maximum of 37.5 still available at the season finale.
