The Top Qualifying session for the 2025 ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring has come to an abrupt halt before it could properly begin, after Laurens Vanthoor crashed heavily at Aremberg on his first flying lap. The red flag was shown before any representative times could be set, and the session has been postponed to 16:00 CEST.

Vanthoor was at the wheel of the #16 Scherer Sport PHX Porsche 911 GT3 R, which had been plagued by technical issues earlier in the weekend. The team only narrowly secured its place in the shootout during Thursday night’s qualifying runs, adding to the pressure. That effort came undone in dramatic fashion as Vanthoor lost control at Aremberg and crashed heavily. The Porsche was severely damaged, but the Belgian was able to exit the car unaided and appears uninjured.

As a result of the incident and ongoing barrier repairs, the Top Qualifying format has been altered: each car will now have just one flying lap instead of the usual two. It is currently unclear how this will affect the remainder of the day’s schedule, including Qualifying 3.

Before the crash, the #16 Porsche had provisionally qualified third in the combined results from Q1 and Q2, with a best lap of 8m12.103sec.
