The iconic Ferrari brand is set to make a full-time return to the British GT Championship in 2025, with Duncan Cameron, Matt Griffin, and Spirit of Race teaming up to campaign the Ferrari 296 GT3. This marks a significant milestone for the championship as the first confirmed entry for the new season and the first time a Ferrari GT3 car will compete full-time in the series since 2020.
The car, adorned with Cameron’s trademark green livery, will be run by AF Corse UK, a team that shares a storied history with Ferrari in British GT. Cameron and Griffin, who last raced a Ferrari GT3 in the championship in 2020, bring a wealth of experience to the table. The duo has previously piloted all five generations of Ferrari GT3 machinery together, beginning with the F430 in 2009 and progressing through the 458 Italia and 488 models.
Their return coincides with an opportunity to debut the 296 GT3 on British soil. Although a Sky Tempesta 296 GT3 was slated to appear at Silverstone last year, a practice session accident prevented its entry. As a result, the season opener at Donington Park in April will mark the first time a Ferrari GT3 has competed in the series since Snetterton in 2020.
Cameron and Griffin’s partnership spans nearly two decades, encompassing notable campaigns in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the European Le Mans Series. The pair also bring recent success with the 296 GT3, having claimed victory at Paul Ricard in last year’s ELMS alongside co-driver David Perel.
“There’s a special connection between us and Ferrari in British GT, and it’s exciting to return,” Cameron said. “We’re aiming for the 296’s first UK win. It’s a new car for this championship, and that unfamiliarity could be an advantage.”
Griffin, who ranks sixth on British GT’s all-time winners list, added, “The 296 GT3 is already a proven winner globally, and we’re determined to add to its success here. We know the car, the team, and each other, which puts us in a strong position to compete.”
The British GT Championship kicks off with a media day at Silverstone on March 21, followed by the season opener at Donington Park on April 5-6. Ferrari fans can anticipate an exciting season as Cameron, Griffin, and Spirit of Race strive to add another chapter to the Prancing Horse’s storied motorsport legacy.
