Defending British GT3 Drivers’ Champion Rob Collard will miss the opening round of the 2025 British GT Championship at Donington Park due to an unforeseen medical procedure. In his absence, Matt Topham will step into the #1 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, partnering with Hugo Cook for the season opener on April 5-6.
Collard, a former British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) driver, has been a key contender in British GT since moving to the series in 2019. After winning the GT3 title in 2020 with Sandy Mitchell, he reclaimed the championship in 2024 alongside his son, Ricky Collard. This season, he was set to defend his title with Barwell Motorsport, partnering with Hugo Cook, who is making the step up to GT3 after competing in GT4.
With Collard temporarily sidelined, Matt Topham will take his place for the opening round. Topham, a two-time British GT4 Pro-Am champion, moved up to GT3 in 2024, racing an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 with Blackthorn Motorsport alongside Josh Rowledge. His experience in both classes will be valuable as he steps into the Lamborghini for Barwell’s title-defending campaign.
The 2025 British GT Championship begins at Donington Park on April 5-6, marking the start of a new season of endurance racing across the UK’s top circuits. Follow full coverage of the championship on GT REPORT.
