After months of no racing, Fabio Scherer returned to the Nordschleife with renewed momentum. With solid preparation done at NLS2 of the ADAC RAVENOL Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), the 2023 Le Mans winner is already laying the groundwork for a strong 2026 campaign.
The charismatic Swiss driver teamed up with Haupt Racing Team again to get back behind the wheel of the beast: the Ford Mustang GT3 with the new EVO performance package.
Sunny Nordschleife, a great crowd and getting good preparation in usually equals a happy driver, right? “It’s super nice to be back,” Scherer tells GT REPORT at the Nürburgring. “For sure I needed some time, as I haven’t been in a race car since NLS10 [in October 2025, red.].”
“It takes some laps, but it’s cool to be back. I think we have a good baseline. We need to work with the EVO to push the maximum out of it. I think we’re doing great.”
Scherer shared the car with Arjun Maini and Emil Gjerdum, two drivers who are also familiar with the Mustang GT3. During the testing session on Friday, they were able to get a good rhythm in for the race and the rest of the Nordschleife season.
“The first two laps of the Nordschleife always make you a bit dizzy in a way,” Scherer laughs. “Afterwards, it’s fine. I think the next round will already be okay.”

Adapting quickly after racing in prototypes and single-seaters
At just 26 years old, Scherer’s curriculum vitae carries an impressive list of feats, as he has multiple wins in ADAC Formula 4 and podiums in Formula 3 under his belt. In 2021 he debuted in WEC with United Autosports and became vice champion. He won the 24 hours of Le Mans two years later with Inter Europol Competition in the LMP2 class.
Last year, Scherer switched to GT racing and completed his DTM campaign with HRT, rapidly making his mark as one of the most notable drivers. Jumping from single-seaters and prototypes to a GT3 car is not easy, but Scherer was able to adapt quickly.
“Luckily it’s easy for me to do so! Before, I just drove prototypes and single-seaters, and that is kind of like day and night. I never had a car with ABS and so on. It worked out quite well,” he grins.
“I had one test day before the first DTM race in Oschersleben [In 2025, red], so I had almost zero experience. For that reason I would say it worked well. It’s for sure a completely different topic than a full aero car.”

Scherer will continue building his list of great achievements in GT3 cars this year. There’s more coming soon, he hints: “I can’t disclose my full programme for 2026 yet, but for sure the second year in GT racing will help. I think it makes me even stronger, because at the end of last year we performed very well in every championship. I think we will be strong this year too.”
