IMSA and SRO are not going ahead with a joint Balance of Performance (BoP) test as intended. The test between the two organizations was announced in June during the Spa 24 Hours weekend. Originally scheduled for December at Daytona International Speedway, the test is cancelled effective Thursday.

Manufacturer partner dialogue is the primary issue cited in the joint press release by the organizations. Particularly, rising costs for both brands and teams appears to make running unfeasible. “It’s in our collective best interests to refrain from putting additional strain on resources,” the press release states.

Simultaneously, IMSA confirms their originally planned two-day portion of the test. Teams will converge at Daytona for testing, scheduled for December 10 and 11.

While the BoP test is not going ahead, both organizations commit themselves to technical collaboration. Ensuring GT3 racing remains competitive as possible is the endgame. “Both organizations will continue working together on viable opportunities to refine and improve our respective BoP processes,” the joint statement reads. “The goal is to provide a fair and equitable platform for all manufacturers and competitors and close competition for race fans all over the world to enjoy.”
