Colton Herta is entrenched in his first season in Formula 2 with Hitech TGR while also serving as a test driver for Cadillac’s Formula 1 program. Despite his busy schedule overseas, Herta has found time to pursue a passion project by competing with Wayne Taylor Racing in its Cadillac GTP program.
Herta is contesting three endurance races with WTR in 2026, having already competed at Daytona and Sebring, with his final appearance scheduled for October at Road Atlanta. His relationship with Cadillac has allowed the American driver to continue racing in the United States despite primarily competing abroad.
Now that Herta’s career is centered in Europe, the opportunity to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), particularly the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is something that piques his interest.
“Yeah, I would love to,” Herta said to GT REPORT in March at Sebring. “I don’t know if it’ll ever work out with my schedule because you have two weeks, which is difficult. You need the test weekend, the weekend before, and then race week. And that excludes all the sim prep and preparation work you have to do for that race. So realistically, you need a big chunk of time carved out for a race like that. But yeah, if it worked out, I would 100% say yes. I would love to do it. I’d love to drive a Cadillac in the top class, and Hypercar would be amazing.”
While Herta acknowledged the scheduling challenges that would need to be overcome, the possibility of him competing at Le Mans remains an intriguing prospect. Should the opportunity arise, it would add another high-profile American driver to the grid in one of sports car racing’s most prestigious events.
