Pascal Wehrlein led all 39 laps in Round 16 of Saturday’s London E-Prix, taking over the lead in the drivers’ championship standings heading into Sunday’s Formula E season finale.
The first half of the race was dominated by Porsche Formula E Team, with Wehrlein and his teammate, Nico Muller, sitting 1-2 as Wehrlein extended his lead over Muller and the rest of the podium suitors.
The field would be reshuffled once pit stops took place. However, a full course yellow involving Lucas Di Grassi on Lap 22 would allow for Wehrlein to hold on to his lead and take his pit boost, while Muller shifted down the grid.
Ultimately, Wehrlein held onto his extended lead as the battle for podium heated up closing in on the final laps.
On Lap 30, Jake Dennis would pass Dan Ticktum for 2nd place aboard his Andretti Formula E Team machine. The Ticktum’s loss of position begin a chain reaction, as on Lap 34, Ticktum dropped to 3rd place. Ticktum dropped his podium spot on Lap 34, before being powered out of podium contention on Lap 37.
Ultimately, Wehrlein would cruise to his third race win of the season aboard his Rothmans-inspired Porsche 99x, while Dennis, the championship leader entering the weekend finished 2nd, and Jaguar TCS Racing’s Antonio Felix Da Costa finishing 3rd.
Entering tomorrow’s season finale, Pascal Wehrlein, the Season 10 champion, leads the drivers’ championship with 169 points after collecting the pole and race win for Porsche Formula E Team. Dennis, Season 9 champion, trails Wehrlein by five points in the standings with 164, as the season finale race looks to be a two-horse fight.
In the teams’ title picture, Jagaur TCS Racing continues to hold their championship lead over Porsche Formula E Team with a five-point advantage.
Tomorrow’s season finale for Formula E, Round 17, begins at 10:05 a.m. ET. The race will be proceeded by Free Practice 3 at 3:30 a.m. ET, and Qualifying at 5:40 a.m. ET.
