Inception Racing is the latest entrant to confirm their spot on the 2027 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship grid. However, the team will switch from Ferrari – which the team has ran since 2024 – to Corvette. This is the team’s third manufacturer in its five IMSA seasons. Before switching to Ferrari, the team ran McLarens for the first half of 2024. Their time with McLaren included the team’s last appearance in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Certainly, the team will once again compete for the Akin Award as the team confirms Bronze-rated Brendan Iribe and Frederik Schandorff will again partner for the full-season. Furthermore, Ollie Millroy returns as their endurance driver for 2027. The Rolex 24 at Daytona is expected to be Ollie’s first race back since his horrific accident during the Chinese GT round at Shanghai in September.
Inception, operated by British-based Optimum Motorsport, becomes the second GTD team to confirm a Corvette program. Ironically, the other team that has is the team they look to beat in the Akin Award, 13 Autosport. 13 Autosport and Orey Fidani have beaten Iribe and Inception to the Akin Award the last three seasons. The team looks to turn the tide in 2027 and get the team back to Le Mans in 2028.
The team will confirm their fourth driver for January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona at a later date.
