After 20 years away, Hubert Haupt returns to the DTM. The Haupt Racing Team owner makes a guest appearance at the Nürburgring for his first race since 2001.
The 52-year-old Hubert Haupt takes charge of the #6 Mercedes-AMG Team HRT Mercedes-AMG GT3 adorned in iconic Playboy colours, joining the two fulltime HRT Mercedes-AMG GT3 entries of Maximilian Götz and Vincent Abril.
Having made his series’ debut in 1991 as an Audi works driver, Haupt returned to the new DTM in 2001 with Opel. In recent years, the businessman and avid racer from München has been a fixture in the VLN Nürburgring Endurance Series.
Haupt now takes his GT3 experience to the DTM, making him the only driver to contest in DTM’s original 1984-1996, reborn 2000-2020 and GT3 eras.
“This is another dream come true for me,” Haupt says.
“First my own team in the DTM, and now I am back behind the wheel in this series, of which I have so many memories. As a motorsport man, it is hard to imagine anything better. In Playboy, we have acquired a fantastic partner. It is simply a great, timeless lifestyle brand. From a sporting point of view, the opportunity to test myself in this strong environment with good professionals is obviously appealing. We are well prepared and I believe we can get a good result.”
The DTM round at the Nürburgring takes place on 20-22 August.
