Fresh off an Asian Le Mans Series title and a packed winter campaign, Chris Lulham (23) has stepped straight into GT World Challenge Europe’s Pro class to continue his rapid rise at the sharp end of GT3 racing.
Lulham started the year with the 24 Hours of Dubai, where he joined the Grove Racing by GetSpeed line-up with Jules Gounon – also his teammate in GT World Challenge Europe Endurance – on the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
In February he added a championship in Asian Le Mans Series to his already impressive list of feats. The winters seem to keep getting shorter, but for racing drivers there’s nothing they would want to change about that.
Paul Ricard Pro debut
Lulham’s first GT World Challenge Europe outing in the Pro class came at Paul Ricard on April 11–12, where he joined Mercedes-AMG Performance Drivers Jules Gounon and Dani Juncadella. He stepped up to the Pro class after winning both Sprint and Endurance titles in the Gold Cup last year.

“It was a super competitive weekend in Paul Ricard,” he says in an interview with GT REPORT. “Now being in a Pro car, you can see how competitive the top eight or nine slots are. If you’re a bit off [the pace], then you’re almost not scoring points. It was a mixed weekend.”
Verstappen Racing finished in P9 after a difficult race. “I think our performance was quite relative to the temperature of the day. With the warmer temperatures we were quite fast to be honest,” Lulham explains. “It looked like we were on for a good result.”
“The temperatures came down and then we lost some performance in the car. My stint was a bit tricky and I didn’t finish exactly how I wanted it to. Nevertheless, it was really nice to work in an environment with Jules and Dani. To get their insight is always very valuable.”
Switching to the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo
Lulham has shown good progress in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo after racing in the Ferrari 296 GT3 and Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo last year.
“It’s quite different, but you also get the same trends. For the chassis, I definitely prefer what the AMG has to offer,” he says, referring to the stable front engine GT3 platform built by the German marque.
“As a racing driver, the AMG feels very natural to jump into and extract the performance. You can’t attack the driving style quite like the Ferrari, but it feels very nice. When you treat it nice, it treats you nice!”
With experienced AMG specialists alongside him, Lulham is confident in his development trajectory. “We had quite an extensive preparation programme for the season. I got a good reference for myself against the likes of Dani and Jules. I know where my potential is.”
“To be able to execute that in a race weekend when you don’t have so many laps, and you jump into qualifying and you just have to do the job with no warm-up – that’s where the difference is made and that’s how I have to measure myself.”
“It’s more difficult, but I’m not unhappy with where I’m at.”
First N24
After the start of the GTWCE season, Lulham was happy to return to the Eifel for the N24 Qualifiers and to, as he jokingly adds, escape British weather. He has good memories of the Nürburgring, having claimed victory in NLS9 last year together with Max Verstappen.

“I was there to get some experience on the Nordschleife, so it’s nice to be back here. It’s a great opportunity with PROsport Racing Team Bilstein to get out in an AMG GT3, and just to get some proper laps on the Nordschleife in a racing situation,” Lulham says.
With PROsport, Lulham, Mikaël Grenier, Marek Böckmann and Adam Christodoulou have an entry for the N24 that’s scheduled from May 14 – 17. “I think the car itself is quite new to the team. It will be a bit of a learning process, but it’s going to be an exciting opportunity.”
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 platform itself is not entirely new to PROsport, as they have won the 2018 24H Series with the predecessor of the Evo.
Before fighting for more GT3 glory on the Nordschleife, Lulham and Juncadella will be heading to Brands Hatch for the first Sprint round of the GTWCE, scheduled from May 2-3.
