The South African’s 8min02.930sec in the car he’s sharing with Axcil Jefferies was 5.535sec than NLS8 polesitter Frikadelli Racing Team. Felipe Fernández Laser was behind the wheel of the Frikadelli Porsche 911 GT3 R but was unable to close the gap to the top spot in a rather subdued session – not helped by a lengthy delay this morning thanks to fog at the Nürburgring pushing back the start of qualifying.
Oddness was really the name of the game, perfectly highlighted by the large gap between second and third. That first slot on the second-row went to Michele Beretta in the Dinamic Motorsport Porsche but he was almost ten seconds behind Laser, probably not helped by plenty of scattered Slow Zones throughout.
Fourth went to Dirk Müller in the Team Landgraf Mercedes-AMG GT3 who, in terms of this session at least, was bizarrely close to taking third away from Beretta, his time of 8min19.001sec just seven-tenths down on the best time for the Frikadelli driver.
In what was a good session for Porsche teams, Huber Motorsport ensured there were three 911 GT3 Rs in the top five as Nico Menzel squeezed into fifth – holding on to his place despite a late improvement from Daniel Harper in the BMW Junior Team BMW M6 GT3.
Patric Niederhauser will start NLS9 in seventh in the Lionspeed by Car Collection Motorsport Audi R8 LMS – indeed the fastest of the Audis – more than two seconds ahead of Jakub Giermaziak in the Phoenix Racing Audi.
Falken Motorsports rounded out the top ten with its pair of distinctive Porsches, the #4 of Sven Müller outpacing the #3 of Dennis Olsen by more than six seconds.
NLS9 – the 45. DMV Münsterlandpokal – gets underway at the later time of 1.45pm (CEST) with a 3hour 15minute race to round out the 2021 season. You can watch it all on gt.report/live.
