Fox Motorsport, the renowned team hailing from Maldon, Essex, is gearing up for a comeback to the Intelligent Money British GT Championship. They are set to make their presence known at the final round of the season, the ‘Donington Decider’ at Donington Park, taking place on October 21-22. In a show of their determination and ambition, Fox Motorsport will be fielding a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2.
The striking Lamborghini will be piloted by a dynamic duo, John Seale and Abbie Eaton, as they compete in the Silver-Am class. This return to British GT marks a significant moment for the team, which has achieved race victories in both the GT3 and GT4 categories over the past decade. Their most recent triumph was an outright victory with a McLaren at Spa-Francorchamps last year.
John Seale, hailing from Hampshire, has been a regular co-driver for both Abbie and Fox’s Jamie Stanley in recent seasons. Notably, he clinched the GT Cup class champion titles in 2019 and 2020. John’s British GT debut in 2018 saw him as a GTC class winner, but has only made only occasional appearances since, the most recent being the 2020 season opener at Oulton Park.
On the other hand, Abbie Eaton, a native of Hull, rose to global fame as the official test driver on the popular Amazon Prime Series “The Grand Tour,” led by Jeremy Clarkson. Abbie is returning to the British GT scene for the first time since 2017, having secured the runner-up spot in the GT4 Silver standings in 2016. Her journey continued with victories in the GT World Challenge Europe and consistent points-scoring performances in the W Series, which supports Formula 1 events.
Abbie has also been showcasing her skills this year in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe, where she has proudly stood on the podium. Her first taste of the Fox Motorsport GT3 Lamborghini at Donington Park on October 3 hinted at an exciting future partnership.
John Seale expressed his excitement, saying, “Donington’s going to be good fun. I’ve had a couple of days in the Evo 2 Lamborghini, and I’m still dialing myself in, but it’s a beautiful car to drive, and I’m looking forward to getting as much practice as possible before we race it. Fox Motorsport are a race-winning team, and Jamie Stanley, who has been racing with me for years, is heavily involved here, so that makes it an ideal fit. Jamie’s not available for the weekend, so I’m very happy to have Abbie standing in. We’ve done very well as a partnership before, so she’s absolutely the person I’d like alongside me.”
Abbie Eaton added, “I’m looking forward to racing in British GT for the first time in a long while. I haven’t done an awful lot of GT3 racing, but I’ve spent the year in the Super Trofeo car, which has different characteristics, so hopefully it won’t take long to adjust to the Evo 2. I’ve stood in for Jamie as John’s co-driver quite a few times, and we’ve had a good number of wins in Britcar and the GT Cup together, and although I’ve never raced for Fox Motorsport, I know the team well. I’d like to thank Jamie and John for the opportunity and see where it might lead in the future.”
Jamie Stanley, Team Manager, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “John’s a driver I’ve worked with for a long time, so it’s great to give him the chance to race a GT3 car with a proven race-winning British GT team like Fox Motorsport. He’s done a good job learning the car in testing and should learn a lot more at Donington on race weekend. A huge thank you to Abbie for stepping in to drive while I’m unavailable. She’s been a brilliant stand-in with John over the past few seasons, and together I’m sure they’ll prove to be a good pairing.”
Paul McNeilly, Team Principal of Fox Motorsport, expressed the team’s excitement, saying, “We’re excited to be returning to British GT at the same track where we last raced in the series a year ago. John and Abbie have raced together many times, and Abbie’s coached for us, so she is well-known to the team, and that’s going to mean that the acclimatization process is much easier and can be focused entirely on the Lamborghini. Although we’ve successfully diversified into single-seaters this year, we are a GT race team at our core and we see our future in both disciplines, so we’d hope this can be a first step towards that.”
With Fox Motorsport’s return and the promising partnership of John Seale and Abbie Eaton, British GT fans can look forward to an action-packed ‘Donington Decider’ that promises thrilling battles on the track and memorable moments off it.
