Tamworth-based racing outfit Paddock Motorsport is gearing up for its most significant campaign to date in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship, as it prepares for a thrilling return to the GT3 category. Spearheaded by the dynamic duo of Mark Smith and team founder Martin Plowman, Paddock promises an impressive multi-car entry in the 2024 season.
This marks the team’s fourth consecutive appearance in the British GT Championship, and expectations are high for an even more dominant presence in Europe’s most competitive domestic sportscar championship. Continuing their partnership with McLaren Customer Racing, Paddock will field entries in both the GT3 and GT4 categories, showcasing the team’s commitment to excellence.
The spotlight shines on the GT3 Pro-Am category, where American racer Mark Smith and Paddock founder Martin Plowman will lead the charge in the #9 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo. Building on their successful collaboration from the previous season, both drivers are determined to push for podium finishes and victories.
After a setback at Donington Park last October resulted in heavy damage to their McLaren, Paddock has undergone a comprehensive rebuild, introducing a fresh carbon-pink livery inspired by Plowman’s past successes. The striking new design pays homage to the Oak Racing Morgan-Nissan LMP2 that Plowman guided to victory in the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours and the FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 title.
Mark Smith expressed his excitement, saying, “I expect 2024 to be the year we compete at the front at this level,” while Martin Plowman highlighted the team’s growth and evolution, emphasizing their readiness to make a strong start in the upcoming season.
Adding to the team’s arsenal, Paddock has secured the expertise of multiple title-winning engineer Simon Pollock, further fortifying their technical team for the challenges ahead.
