DTM Red Bull Ring Qualifying 1 produced a thrilling session, with the top three covered by just 0.046 seconds after a dramatic final minute of flying laps.
Maro Engel took pole position for Mercedes-AMG Team Ravenol in the #80 with a best lap of 1:27.403, moving to the top with just over a minute remaining. Ben Dörr stormed to second for Dörr Motorsport in the #25 McLaren 720S GT3 with a late flyer, just 0.015 seconds adrift, while Thomas Preining, who had led for most of the session in the #91 Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT3, was shuffled back to third.
Lucas Auer qualified fourth for Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf in the #22, ahead of DTM debutant Bastian Buus in the #29 Land-Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 in fifth. Jules Gounon took sixth in the #48 for Mercedes-AMG Team Mann-Filter and Ricardo Feller seventh in the #90 for Manthey Racing. Matteo Cairoli qualified eighth on his DTM debut in the #14 Emil Frey Racing Ferrari 296 GT3, Timo Glock ninth in the #16 for Dörr Motorsport, and Tom Kalender rounded out the top ten in the #84 for Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf.
