Simone Riccitelli said VSR were “starting to relax” before a late safety car reset the fight for victory in the opening race of the 2026 Italian GT Championship (CIGT) Sprint season at Imola.
Starting from pole, the #63 VSR Lamborghini Huracán GT3 controlled a disrupted race that included multiple safety car periods and a late restart, with co-driver Georgi Dimitrov ultimately holding off late pressure to secure the win.

Reflecting on the result, Riccitelli highlighted both the level of competition and the impact of the late neutralisation.
“It’s a great satisfaction because the grid is very competitive with some big names,” he told GT REPORT. “It was a hard-fought race. We were starting to relax a bit, but then the safety car came out and brought everyone back together again. But Georgi did a great job and the team was fantastic.”
The result gives VSR early momentum heading into Sunday’s Race 2, where Georgi Dimitrov will start seventh on the grid.
