AF Corse USA earns their second consecutive pole position for this afternoon’s fifth round of the GT World Challenge powered by AWS season. Matias Perez Companc and Miguel Molina put together a comprehensive performance Sunday morning to lead the way.
Qualifying 1
Perez Companc led the way topping the session with a 2:05.177, six tenths clear of the rest of the field. Michai Stephens put the championship leaders second fastest. Alex Sedgwick followed with the Dolahite Mustang third in the cue. In fourth, topping the Pro-Am class, is Danny Dyszelski for RS1. The GTWC America debutant, replacing JP Martinez, posted a 2:06.031 in his No. 28 Porsche. In Am, a little surprise as Scuderia Corsa topped the first round. Mitchell Green put the No. 67 Ferrari sixteenth overall with a 2:08.366 to better Jay Schribeman in the AF Corse entry.
Qualifying 2
Robby Foley would take his turn at the top leading the way in Qualifying 2 with a 2:04.181, fastest lap of the weekend. Tom Sargeant would get the GMG Porsche within half a tenth of the Turner BMW, fastest of the Pro-Am entries in the session. But it was Ricardo Agostini’s 2:04.340 that was third in the session proving pivotal. That lap would see the Triarsi Competizione Ferrari take the Pro-Am class pole on a combined 2:05.594.
Behind Agostini was Molina with a 2:04.461. His fourth best lap of the session was enough to secure overall pole for AF Corse USA. The combined lap time of 2:04.819 bested Turner Motorsport by three tenths of a second. Finally, Benny Simonsen’s Q2 lap of 2:05.379 – a lap quicker than Pro points leader Mikael Grenier – shot AF Corse past Scuderia Corsa to Am class pole in sixteenth overall.
As expected, the Chouest Povoledo Corvette did not attempt to qualify. Therefore, twenty-three cars will take the start.
The three-hour race starts at 2:00pm local time.
